We are excited to share that the Doncaster Wound Care Alliance has been awarded High Commendation as “Integrated Care Initiative of the Year” at the Health Service Journal Awards 2023.

It is a proud moment for Primary Care Doncaster and our partners at NHS South Yorkshire ICB, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber Foundation Trust, and FCMS Doncaster.

Kelly Phillips, Lead for Skin Integrity Team at Doncaster Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, commented: “Wow! We are all so proud and thankful for being awarded the High Commendation for the Integrated Care Initiative of the Year with the amazing Doncaster Wound Care Alliance.

As you can see we are beaming with pride and happiness about this recognition, but we truly feel it is our patients that have won. We would like to thank every single healthcare professional, patient and organisation that has been involved with this both past and present.

They have all enabled this initiative to be successful in standardising care, managing service demand and complexity, embedding a supportive governance structure and improving health care professional’s knowledge and skills, to care for people living with and at risk of developing a wound across the Doncaster Place.

It means so much to us all knowing that every time we review one of our patients we have optimised the care, to ensure it is provided in the right place and at the right time to improve their health and quality of life.

Not only does the Wound Care Alliance mean a lot to us but it means a lot to the people accessing our services too. They are happier and more comfortable. For example, I met a patient and discussed the outcomes she was hoping for from commencing wound management for her ongoing leg ulcer and her response was ‘’I just want to be able to hug my granddaughter again, as she will not sit with me due to being scared of the wound, because of the smell’’ – I am pleased to confirm by receiving standardised evidence-based care through the seamless transition in the alliance the leg ulcer healed in 3 months and she got plenty of hugs from her granddaughter.“

The awards ceremony, which took place last night at Evolution London, was a fantastic gathering of healthcare innovators and leaders and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winners. We are delighted to have been part of an event that celebrated the shared commitment to healthcare excellence.

This recognition further strengthens our commitment and we are excited to continue our journey, leading the way in integrated care and improving patient outcomes across Doncaster.
