Highlights from our Skin Cancer Awareness Event

On Tuesday, 27th May, we hosted a Skin Cancer Awareness Event at Lakeside Shopping Outlet, aiming to raise awareness about skin health and promote sun safety ahead of the summer months.

The event was a great success, attracting over 40 members of the public who visited our stand throughout the day. Held alongside our Health Van service, which offered drop-in smear tests, the event was a great opportunity to engage with the public and highlight the importance of protecting our skin, especially during the hottest months of the year when sun exposure increases.

During the event, attendees engaged in meaningful conversations with our team and partners about a wide range of topics including:

  • How to spot signs and symptoms of skin cancer
  • Staying safe in the sun and the importance of daily sunscreen use
  • Easy-read resources and support available post-diagnosis
  • Macmillan information and support services for those living with or recovering from cancer

We were also delighted to be joined by L’Oréal, who generously provided free SPF samples to visitors and shared helpful advice on how to use them effectively.

Feedback on the day was overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of visitors said they found pop-up health events useful. One attendee shared that “the event prompted me to visit my GP to discuss a new mole on my arm,” highlighting just how impactful these awareness days can be.

A particularly striking insight was that 40% of the people we spoke to had previously had skin cancer, underlining just how important it is to continue these conversations within our community.

The event served as an important reminder to be proactive about sun safety, regularly check our moles for changes, and seek help when needed.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended! Follow us on our social media channels over the next few weeks as we will share tips and information about skin cancer and how to stay safe in the sun during the summer months!
