Primary Care Doncaster (PCD) is delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Shaw as our new Chief Executive Officer.

After a thorough recruitment process that attracted an exceptional number of high-calibre candidates, Michael emerged as the ideal leader to guide PCD into its next chapter.

Improving teams, services, organisations, and systems has been central to Michael’s career, spanning both public and commercial sectors. He has spent the last twenty-one years supporting NHS organisations and teams to improve quality, performance, and productivity for the benefit of patients, staff, and the taxpayer. As a senior leader, he has engaged with, worked alongside, coached, and empowered senior leaders and clinicians of integrated care boards, NHS England, as well as providers in acute, mental health, community, primary care, adult social care, the voluntary sector, and an AHSN. Michael is a Non-Executive Director for the Institute for Continuous Improvement in UK Public Services.

Michael is passionate about helping public services, to be the best they can be. To improve the experience for all who need to use them and for those who deliver them.

“It is a true honour to be appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Primary Care Doncaster (PCD). I would like to thank my predecessor, Laura, for her vision and dedication, which established PCD as a vital partner in the Doncaster health and care system.
General Practice forms the backbone of the NHS, and neighbourhood health should develop as a genuine extension of that. The 10-year plan aims to shift patient care from hospitals to neighbourhood health, emphasising prevention and digitally enabled services, with Doncaster now taking the lead to achieve this.
This is a moment of opportunity and transformative change – a GP-led Neighbourhood Health Service. It is my vision that Primary Care Doncaster will play a central role in supporting general practice and all our partners across Doncaster in driving this change and seizing this opportunity for the benefit of the local community, patients, and staff.
However, we must also recognise the real challenges our practices still face today, and PCD must continue to support practices in overcoming these challenges so they can thrive as the backbone of neighbourhood health and care.
I look forward to working with our Chairman, Dr Stuart McHardy, to support our team in renewing and strengthening our relationships with general practice, and to collaborating with our partners to form a guiding coalition that co-designs that future, leads, and delivers sustainable change, transforming our collective ambition into impact.”

Michael Shaw, CEO, Primary Care Doncaster

Michael’s passion for improving public services and his proven record of building stronger teams and systems make him an inspiring leader for PCD as we continue to develop neighbourhood health and care services in Doncaster.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Michael Shaw to Primary Care Doncaster as he begins this exciting new chapter.
